WHERE WE’VE BEEN: SodaStream Booth at the International Homes & Housewares Show

Unbeknownst to many, SodaStream was originally founded over a decade ago overseas and made its way to America in 2003 as the world leader in home carbonating systems.  Honestly, I never had much interest in the machine since I do not drink pop (or soda as some call it)… that was until I met the president of SodaStream and spent some time talking to company reps, trying out the products, and listening to Jillian Michaels speak in full support of the product.

We were invited as Trade Guests to the show through Chicago Blogger Network and were excited to get an up-close-and-personal view of SodaStream and get an insider’s scoop on what consumers can expect to see in the near future.  I was definitely blown away and eager to get my hands on my very own SodaStream.

The presentation began with a 3-D display of a landfill filled with soda cans and bottles to show how many bottles a typical family would consume over five years.  I don’t know if the picture does it justice but it was a shock to physically see the waste we, as a country, are creating simply by consuming soda.  Besides the containers creating unneccesary waste, store bought soda contains high levels of sugars and other non-nutritional ingredients making it a long-time contributor to our unhealthy society.

Thanks to SodaStream, making healthy carbonated water and soft drinks at home is now simple! Anyone can turn tap water into sparkling water in under 30 seconds, with no clean-up making it easy to enjoy the freshness and convenience of homemade soda and protect the environment at the same time.  And with 60 plus flavors to choose from (both regular and diet), everyone will be able to enjoy the beverage of their choice without having to buy multiple varieties of bottled soda or cans at the store.

SodaStream is also constantly upgrading their models to appeal to buyers.  There are so many models that have evolved from the basic one with options of being powered by use of a carbonator or electricity.  Models come in different shapes and colors, too, to fit everyone’s personality.  My favorite option: The Crystal SodaStream of course.  I personally believe a little bling makes everything better.

During our time at the SodaStream booth we had the opportunity to taste some of the flavors – the Cranberry Raspberry and Mango Orange were two of my favorites.  However, my eyes also wandered over to future flavors that should be on the market soon.  SodaStream will be offering flavor essences that just add a little bit of flavoring (mint, lemon lime, orange, or raspberry), organic options, and cocktails and beers as well (think mojito, margarita, summer shandy, etc).  And just like that I am officially a fan.

Perhaps the best treat during our visit to the SodaStream booth was the opportunity to meet Jillian Michaels (most known for helping whip America into shape and seen on America’s Biggest Loser).  She is an absolute delight in person.  She was so funny and charasmatic while being genuinely passionate about SodaStream.  I appreciated her backing of the product being such a health guru and I also appreciated her 4 general rules to living a healthy and fit life: 1) Make smart eating choices (this doesn’t necessarily mean eliminating all “bad” foods but eating them in moderation); 2) Move (find something you love – basketball, dance, running, etc – and do more of it); 3) Get sleep (we do need a good 8 hours on average a night); and finally my personal favorite 4) Have more sex (this one speaks for itself).
