Weekly Roundup

Chicago Events October 30 – November 5

Happy almost Halloween Chicago! Who dressed up or is dressing up this year? If you think you’ve got an awesome costume, I want to see it. Share it with me via email at kc.nykevents@gmail.com, or tag me on facebook at facebook.com/NowYouKnowEvents,twitter at NYK_Events, or Instagram at Appetite_4_Adventure.

I’ve had some spooky fun and have some more planned through Tuesday. I carved pumpkins, watched horror movies, visited some haunted houses, and even hit up Moe’s Tavern (Replay Chicago) to hang out with Homer, Duffman, and the entire Simpon’s crew! I am hoping to hit up one more haunted house, check out DePaul’s the Horror of the Humanities, stop by Cheesies to see how they transform into Rick and Morty, and watch the Northalsted Halloween Parade.

Scroll through this week’s events for more details on those fun happenings and more. This week’s features include a month of fun themed happy hours at Staytion and a new platform that is changing the way you entertain at home, making you the hostess with the mostest. Happy scrolling and happy hauntings!

Get the Party Started with Fnktion:

Fnktion is bringing the life of the party to the United States! Following over three years of success on the shores of Australia, fnktion launched on Halloween weekend in Los Angeles. Founded by Richard Macphillamy and Louisa Ainsworth, fnktion is changing the way people entertain at home by connecting event organizers with affordable, curated party professionals at the touch of a button.  The platform cuts out the agency step, giving users the ability to handpick their own staff with the added bonus of saving time and money. This means users can be price makers rather than price takers as staffing agencies would have it.  Now, everyone can afford hired help!

Fnktion has everything you need to throw a killer bash: Party Hosts, Bartenders and Waiters.  Fnktion’s definition of a party host is anyone who can get the party started, help the event run smoothly or mingle and party alongside you and your guests.  Fnktion’s hand-picked party people are sourced from a pool of models, actors, university students and hospitality workers.  They promise to enhance any party, dialing up the good vibes whilst taking care of business and allowing organizers to spend more time with guests.

Fnktion exists in the playful space of entertainment and hospitality and thrives to make it easy and accessible for everyone to have hired help at private parties.

Partying hard? Fnktion makes it easy!

Happy Hour Highlight:

Staytion Market & Bar1 West Wacker Drive, believes that everyone should experience their 5-9 with as much vigor as their 9-5. Throughout the month of November, Staytion will be mixing things up and hosting a series of events that put an adventurous spin on the traditional happy hour. Below are the newly announced “Celebrate the Neighborhood” events for the month of November.

  • Dia de Los Muertos – Wednesday, November 1st, 4-10pm

o   To end their Day of the Dead-inspired celebrations, Staytion will be offering Latin inspired sips and bites throughout the evening.

  • Discover the Elements – Tuesday, November 7th, 4-7pm

o   Fire, wood, earth, metal and water – they make up the foundation of our physical earth, but they are also the perfect inspiration for specialty cocktails. Staytion mixologists will be sharing their take on each of the elements with cocktails created with local liquors.

  • Festival of Lights – Saturday, November 18th, 4-7pm

o   The Festival of Lights celebration wouldn’t be complete without a cup (or two!) of Staytion’s local Bloomer’s Hot Chocolate, which can be served in “adult version” as well, and Chef’ homemade cookies!

  • A Pilsen Thanksgiving – Tuesday, November 21st, 4-10pm

o   Thanksgiving means turkey, but there are plenty of other ways to serve it besides on a platter. The Pilsen community has inspired Staytion to serve up traditional Thanksgiving fixings with a Latin twist. The bites will be perfectly paired with a Mezcal cocktail.

  • Holiday Party Prep – Tuesday, November 28th, 5-7pm

o   ‘Tis the season for holiday gatherings and parties galore. Stumped on what to bring to your next soiree? Staytion mixologists have the answer! Come by and learn how to create a crowd-pleasing punch and follow their directions to find the ingredients at local Chicago stores.
