Look What Was Cooking Up At This Year’s NRA Show 2014

As a blogger, foodie, socialite, and someone who gets around it has become easy for me to pick out my favorite events and which ones I look forward to most year after year. The National Restaurant Association Show easily makes my top 10! I love the opportunity to explore what’s new in the food industry and what will be the biggest trends for the coming year before the general public. The NRA Show 2014 showcased miles and miles of foodie heaven from equipment to products, food, and everything in between.

Before I get to some of my favorites I have to point out my favorite addition to this year’s show – The FOODamental Studio which offered expo attendees an opportunity to enjoy some hands on experiences. Some topics/classes included the Chop Shop, Food Selfie, DIY Desserts, We’re In A Pickle, among other. Now, back to my favorite finds at the NRA Show 2014. Below you will find my Top Eleven! Yes, I said eleven! Odd number I know but also my favorite number and I couldn’t decide what to knock off to make it a Top Ten list so I’m keeping them all.

1. Bacon! Bacon! Bacon! It’s EVERYWHERE! Everyone loves bacon… alomost everyone anyways! And perhaps one of the absolute most popular items at the National Restaurant Association this year was the infamous bacon bowl. The Perfect Bacon Bowl™ allows you to make delicious, edible bacon bowls to use with a variety of savory dishes like eggs, mac & cheese, soups, and more. It can be used in your electric oven, toaster oven, or microwave and is dishwasher safe. Perhaps most impressive of all is that the grease collects in the Bacon Bowl™ channel ensuring a healthier meal.

2. Speaking of bacon…. I’ve got great news for all the non-pork eaters!!! You can now enjoy a pork-free subsitute called Schmacon  – beef’s answer to bacon! Scmacon™ is smoked and cured beef slices and was created in a deli ensuring exceptional flavor! It’s healthier than actual bacon yet maintains delicious taste. And the fact that is also won a FABI (Food and Beverage Innovation) Award for distinguished highly competitive food this year doesn’t hurt either.

3. If packaging was enough to sell me on a product I was sold immediately by Sky Valley by Organicville sauces. Their bottle designs are eye catching for sure but a visually attractive product doesn’t necessarily guarnatee a tasty product so I had to see for myself. If you know me you know I beelined straight for the Sriracha but I didn’t stop there. I tried several other flavors, too, and enjoyed them all. I will definitely be adding these to my shopping list.

4. Not a meat eater? No problem! If you’re part of the no meat crew, just eat neat™. Neat™, a meatless substitute. The kicker – it’s not made from soy! Say what? Seriously, Neat™ uses garbanzo beans as a base instead. It’s an easy-to-make, great tasting ground beef substitue derived from nuts and other natural ingredients. It’s soy-free and gluten-free. The recipe requires eggs so if you are vegan you can use an egg substitute.

5. Live life smart… drink all natural IQ Juice! IQ makes natural juice products using medicinal herbs and plants that are known for their health benefits such as fat burning, brain health, energy, and immunity. And these juices actually taste REALLY good!

6. I have never been a caffeine junky and never got hooked on coffee. I run on pure natural energy but ocassionally I do run out of steam and wish there was a natural energy booster out there! The NRA genie granted my wish… POOF! Say hello to Runa, a tea-like product that uses guayusa, an Amazonian super-leaf that balances caffeine with an abundance of polyphenol antioxidants, providing a clean and steady energy to restore vitality and enliven your day (info from runa.org/our-guayusa/). It gives a smooth, clean taste to their beverages which come in a variety of unique and delicious flavors with zero calorie options available.

7. I drink a lot of water and not much else but sometimes I crave something with flavor though I don’t drink pop/soda or a lot of sugary beverages. So I get really excited when I find alternative options that taste great and are low in calorie. Plus Sipp is also organic so it’s a win, win, win! I loved the crisp, refreshing taste and unique flavors, too. And the flavors also pair well with liquor. As a matter of fact, I found my go to summer cocktail at the NRA Show 2014 – Sipp Lemon Flower mixed with Cucumber Vodka – so delicious! Don’t judge, just have a Sipp!

8. I’m also not a huge milk drinker but when I buy it I typically purchase organic, soy, or almond milk. Imagine my excitedment when I spied Quinoamilk at the National Restaurant Association Show this year. This is a great option for anyone trying to avoid soy. It’s from the Good Groceries Company brand Suzie’s. It’s a smooth and creamy non-dairy beverage made from pure quinoa and NOT blended with any other grains.

9. Speaking of organic milk…. Organic Valley has always been a favorite brand of mine so I was thrilled to see they now offer a line of pre-made protein shakes to help me fuel up before and after an intense workout. Organic Valley is the nation’s largest cooperative of organic farmers and will soon be launching the first ever organic milk protein shakes. Made from real, organic milk, Organic Valley Organic Balance™ and Organic Valley Organic Fuel™ will be available nationwide in natural food stores, food cooperatives, major grocery chains and gyms in June. I tested out the organic fuel in vanilla this week before my morning kickboxing class. It was absolutely delicious and helped me power through!

10. As someone who is constantly on the go but still tries to eat healthy and delicious meals it’s great to find a brand that truly delivers. I am now a serious fan of Dr. Dougall’s products by Right Foods. The line offers organic, gluten-free, low-sodium, and low-sugar options in a variety of food choices like soup bowls, oatmeal, and grains. I will also no doubt be stocking my kitchen shelves with this entire line!

11. I am giving Suzie’s another shout out. This company won me over with the quinoamilk but truly stole my heart by offering a much healthier alternative to my guiltiest pleasure… french fries. They now sell Parsnip Fries and Carrot Fries and they are both delicious! I’m seriously head over heels for this product and cannot wait to see them on shelves.

If you were at the show this year, I’d love to hear what you loved. Please comment below with your favorite find. Also, check out more photos of products from the show this year when you become a fan of Now You Know Events on Facebook.
