Hard Rock Cafe Chicago Celebrates Live Aid Show 30th Anniversary with School of Rock Chicago

To mark the thirtieth anniversary of the legendary musical event Live Aid, Hard Rock Cafe Chicago hosted the School of Rock Chicago for an epic live music celebration on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20. 88 local music students aged 8-18 performed an impressive 85 songs each day. A special highlight of each day was the group performance of “We Are The World”, a song originally performed at the 1985 USA for Africa Live Aid show.

The event welcomed 800 guests throughout the weekend, not including the passerby’s that stopped to take a listen. Between an online food drive and ticket sales to the event, the students raised enough money to fund approximately 6,600 meals for the Greater Chicago Food Depository, an organization that provides food for disadvantaged people while striving to end hunger in the Chicago community.

In 1985, Live Aid, an internationally televised live concert, was held simultaneously at John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia and Wembley Stadium in London to raise funds for famine relief for the people of Ethiopia and featured a lineup of legendary performers. Thirty years later, Hard Rock Cafe Chicago invites guests to celebrate this anniversary by coming out to the cafe for a weekend full of performances by future rockstars.

The School of Rock Chicago’s performance program aims to translate students’ abilities to play in the classroom to performing on stage. In addition to refining their overall skill and proficiency as musicians, students learn exactly what it means to be part of a band: teamwork, collaboration, and the special brand of fun that only comes from sharing an awesome experience with others.
