WHO/WHAT: Macy’s Black History Month Celebration invites you to celebrate Chicago’s own African-American business leaders and visionaries through an inspiring discussion and Q&A with Chairman of Midway Broadcasting Corporation Melody Spann Cooper, Brand Manager of Luster Products Inc.Theresa B. Luster and Co-founder and CEO of Black Tech Mecca Fabian Elliot. The event will be hosted by Val Warner of Windy City Live. Following the discussion, guests will enjoy a reception featuring live paintings by Tyler “Artbae” Clark, hair-care demonstrations by Luster products, mini make-overs by Fashion Fair, music by a live band, beverages, desserts and more!

About Melody Spann Cooper: Melody Spann Cooper is Chairman of Midway Broadcasting Corporation, the parent company of WVON and WRLL radio stations in Chicago. As Chairman of Midway Broadcasting Corporation, she joined an elite list of America’s female broadcast owners after purchasing the company’s controlling interest in 1999. With its urban talk format, WVON is lauded as a leading source of information and community empowerment.  Spann Cooper also spearheaded the development of WRLL, which is committed to preserving the authentic voice and culture of Chicago’s growing Latino community. Her accomplishments in broadcast media have been recognized by numerous organizations that have highlighted her achievements in leadership and business, including Crain’s Chicago BusinessThe Chicago Sun-TimesThe Minority Supplier Development CouncilThe Women’s Business Development Corporation and The Community Media Workshop.

About Theresa B. LusterResa B. Luster is Brand Manager at Large at Luster Products, Inc. She is heavily involved in all development and launches of product collections. In late 2016, she launched the Pink Kids collection which can now be found on the shelves of Walmart, Sally’s Beauty, Dollar General, Fred’s Pharmacy and beauty supply stores. Resa is the granddaughter of Luster’s founder Fred Luster Sr., a barber with an entrepreneurial spirit that led him to create products for minorities to keep their hair healthy, strong and moisturized. Resa’s overall goal and purpose is to grow and expand the business both domestically and internationally. She believes there is no role too small or too large in her family owned business; she will take on any task that presents itself and complete it with integrity and enthusiasm.

About Fabian Elliot: Fabian Elliott is Co-Founder & CEO of Black Tech Mecca Inc. and an Advertising Technology Consultant at Google. Launched in 2015, Black Tech Mecca, the world’s only data-driven think tank focused on the black tech community, leverages data to better connect local tech ecosystems to the needs of black tech practitioners. Black Tech Mecca has made waves in Chicago and garnered national press in EbonyBlack EnterpriseRolling Out and other publications. Elliot’s vision for black empowerment through technology inspired him to play a key role in the revitalization of Google’s black employee group where he completed his term as inaugural appointed Global Co-Chair in August of 2015. In this role, Elliot co-chaired the 10-person leadership team responsible for the 700+ membership across the company and the 14 chapters spanning the globe. In his ad-tech consulting capacity, he works with top-tier clients like Target, Ford, Kimberly Clark and others to better leverage consumer data to drive digital advertising strategies. Elliot has been recognized by Built in Chicago as one of the Top 50 Tech Influencers and as a Chicago Tech 100 ambassador for Chicago Tech Week.
