Homewood Chocolate Fest 2018

Homewood Chocolate Fest 2018

The Village of Homewood proudly hosts the 16th annual Homewood Chocolate Fest 2018 on February 17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year’s festival is in two locations with artisan chocolatiers and bakeries, the Baking Demo and the annual Chocolate Bake-Off Contest in the Homewood-Flossmoor Auditorium, 2010 Chestnut. The kids activites and the PopUp SCIENCE activity are at the Homewood Science Center, 18022 Dixie Hwy. Homewood Chocolate Fest features the always-popular Chocolate Bake-Off Contest where visitors get to sample the professional and amateur submissions for a small donation which benefits the Homewood Flossmoor High School Orchestra. Admission is free to this event. For additional information visit www.HomeSweetHomewood.com or call 708-798-3000.

“Homewood Chocolate Fest is an especially sweet treat in the middle of February” said mayor Rich Hofeld. “We are pleased to collaborate with the Homewood Science Center and be able to expand our offerings… and our space. This is always the sweetest festival Homewood has to offer and it’s great to see the community come out to be together. And of course sample chocolate.”

This year’s baking demonstration is by pastry chef Casey Thompson from The Cottage on Dixie. Thompson received 2nd place at the 2016 Homewood Chocolate Fest Bake Off Competition and has had an in-home baking business as well as baked at Sweet Annie’s Bakery in Flossmoor. Thompson will demonstrate how to create White Chocolate Cranberry Pistachio Bark. The cooking demonstration takes place at noon and 1 p.m.

The Chocolate Bake-Off Contest is for amateur and professional bakers. The Bake-Off, hosted by The Community Relations Commission, is a spirited contest for bakers and confectioners to compete for recognition as “Home Sweet Homewood’s Master Pastry Chef”. A panel of judges selects three winners for both the amateur and professional baker category. After the winners are decided, the public samples each entry in exchange for a small donation to benefit an area service group. The public tasting begins at 12:30 p.m. and the winner is announced at 1:30 p.m. The deadline for Bake-Off applications is Tuesday, February 12. Proceeds raised from this year’s Bake-Off benefit Homewood-Flossmoor High School Orchestra’s trip to Germany.

Homewood Chocolate Fest crafts and activities are at The Homewood Science Center, which is presenting the PopUpSCIENCE “Sweet Shoppe Science & Math”. Visitors can choose from three flavorful and fun activities; a hot chocolate math facts game, an M&M balancing scale activity or test a variety of chocolate bars’ buoyancy in sink or swim experiments. Plus, the Homewood Science Center is showing the chocolate lover’s classic film “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” in the Michael Wexler Theater. In addition, The Homewood Community Relations is hosting a free apron decorating activity for kids.

Vendors at the 2018 Homewood Chocolate Festival include Bakewell Bakery, Bob’s Belgian Hot Chocolate, The Cottage on Dixie, Elite Sweets, EmpanadUS, Fannie May, Mother Wilma’s Marshmallow Factory, Tiddleywink Toffee, and more. The Homewood Business Association is also selling their Chocolate Passports Around the World.

The 16th Annual Homewood Chocolate Fest is Saturday, February 17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.in the H-F Park District Auditorium, 2010 Chestnut Road. Homewood is steps from the Metra Electric train line and about 40 minutes from Downtown Chicago. This event is free and open to the public. For additional information visit www. HomeSweetHomewood.com or call 708-798-3000.
