Children’s Place Association Once Upon A Time Gala 2017

On Saturday, April 22nd, join Children’s Place Association at the Once Upon a Time Gala 2017, supporting programs to help children challenged by illness and extreme poverty. Organizers of the black-tie charity ball hope to raise more than a half-million dollars to fund critical services for the city’s most vulnerable children.

More than 400 supporters are expected to enjoy a night of dinner and dancing as they focus attention on the plight of local kids and families struggling with serious health conditions and impoverishment.

The black-and-white masquerade themed event will be held at Revel Fulton Market in Chicago’s trendy, urban-chic West Loop. Gala Chair Marisa Kurk of Mesirow Financial is heading the event, along with Vice Chair Raymond Mulligan, formerly of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (retired).

“Hundreds of children across Chicago have the chance to overcome health and economic challenges and reach their full potential because of the award-winning programs of Children’s Place,” said the organization’s CEO, Cathy Krieger. “Without the financial boost from the Once Upon a Time Gala, we would be unable to sustain our vital services, especially at a time of tenuous funding from the State of Illinois,” she added.

For 26 years Children’s Place Association has developed innovative programs that help children overcome the dual challenges of illness and poverty. Originally founded in response to HIV/AIDS, it now serves children and families facing a wide range of conditions, including cancer, epilepsy, heart conditions, autism and HIV.

Since opening in 1991, the nonprofit has helped more 5,000 people and currently provides services for 350-400 Chicago-area children and parents. Its Children’s Place International initiative brings vital help to vulnerable children in the Caribbean and Africa and is celebrating its tenth anniversary.

ABOUT CHILDREN’S PLACE ASSOCIATION

Children’s Place Association transforms the lives of children in the very worst circumstances – those confronting illness and extreme poverty. We help them overcome challenges so they can lead their best lives. Children’s Place opened in 1991 to help Chicago children affected by HIV/AIDS. Our organization gained national attention for its pioneering programs. Today, the nonprofit serves those facing numerous health issues, including cancer, epilepsy, heart conditions, autism and HIV. We intervene at critical points in children’s development to effect positive, long-term impact, focusing on four key areas: Health, Education, Family Stability and Economic Stability. Our award-winning, comprehensive services include Early Education with onsite medical care for children challenged by illness or disabilities; Supportive Housing for families struggling with health issues and homelessness; a Residential Center with 24-hour Nursing for medically complex children; Foster/Adoptive Care for abused/neglected children; and Case Management, Mental Health and Summer Camp. Our International program helps vulnerable children in Africa and the Caribbean. For more information, please visit childrens-place.org and childrensplaceinternational.org
