10th Annual Taste of Clemente

The Community Health Board for the Youth Empowering Strategies/YES! Program would like to invite you to the 10th Annual Taste of Clemente Cocktail Reception & Silent Auction. It will be held at the Stan Mansion, 2408 N Kedzie Ave, Chicago, IL, from 7PM-12AM on Saturday, March 22, 2014. The Taste of Clemente is our primary fundraiser for the Youth Empowering Strategies/YES! A Peer Health Education & Advocacy Program. Tickets to Taste of Clemente are $40 and can be purchased here.

Our program includes students from Aspira Antonia Pantoja, Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos, Roberto Clemente Community Academy, Josephinum Academy, and West Town Academy –high schools that predominantly serve Humboldt Park, West Town,  Logan Square, and the Austin communities. Our students are predominantly Latino and African American.    We hope to expand our peer health education and advocacy program with youth from the Humboldt Park, West Town and Logan Square communities via existing high schools. Proceeds will help fund the summer peer education training. This includes summer jobs for our youth and local college students!!!

The Youth Empowering Strategies/YES! Program started in 2005 with a pregnancy prevention grant from the Illinois Department of Human Services. Since that time we have trained more than 100 students as peer health advocates. At least 1000 students have received peer led education on nutrition and fitness, violence prevention and pregnancy prevention. Our YES! Program has also been a venue where medical students and residents have received training on public health issues affecting urban adolescents. We advocate for adolescents becoming informed health consumers and hope that because of this education and experiences shared –students will have and make healthier choices– which would ultimately benefit our communities.

The mission of the YES! Community Health Board is to build an empowering foundation for our community’s youth through their participation in diverse experiences and opportunities. Our goal is to aid our community’s youth in becoming well-rounded, respectful and informed health advocates for themselves and their peers by providing them with healthy choices that positively affect their physical, mental and spiritual health.

Tickets will be $40. Checks should be made to Youth Empowering Strategies. For further information please visit our website:  If you are interested in sponsorship, donating a silent auction item or volunteering, please contact Dr. Bishop at or 312-375-0390.
