Chicago’s Inaugural Tour De Frosé — YES Way!

What happens when two girlfriends get together for a GNO (girl’s night out) over cocktails? They brainstorm genius ideas! At least that’s what happened when Kati Hammon (IG: @katihammon) and Lexi Holden (IG: @lexinthecity____) were sipping cocktails a little while back at Saint Lou’s Assembly in the West Loop.

While the girls had a list of creative, fun ideas for events in Chicago, they put one into action immediately before Chicago’s 100 days of summer come to an end… Tour de Frosé! Everyone knows rosé is the quintessential wine of summer so imagine how summer perfect it becomes as a slushie, aka frosé!

And now imagine how much more perfect summer becomes when you enjoy a glass of frosé at some of Chicago’s hottest bars. Exactly what Kati and Lexi thought and why the genius Tour de Frosé idea was born! After more brainstorming, research on who serves up the best frosé, and a few phone calls, the date was all set!

Tiny Tapp

On Saturday, August 19 Tour de Frosé kicked off! Amidst the planes flying overhead for the annual Chicago Air and Water Show, a group of Chicago bloggers gathered along the Chicago River at Tiny Tapp, a waterside cafe offering light American bites, cocktails & coffee with views of the river. We toasted our 5-stop tour with a delicious glass of frosé garnished with a slice of strawberry and lemon, one of the best cocktails of the day.

After downing our first glass, we headed to our second stop courtesy of my favorite rideshare service, Via. Not as well-known as other car services, Via launched in Chicago towards the end of 2015 serving only a small radius in the center of city. The service has since grown and expanded to cover a much larger span including many of Chicago’s popular neighborhoods.

Saint Lou’s Assembly

The biggest draw to Via is their no-nonsense fares. No matter where you are coming from or going you will ALWAYS pay the same price. Surge pricing will NEVER apply. Via has basically 3 rates – daytime $3.95, evening $4.95, and weekends $7.95. Plus ones ride for $2 with occasional $1 specials. If you haven’t tried via yet, you can use code appetite4adventure to enjoy your first 3 rides free! Download the app here: bit.ly/2fNYZwA.

Via got us all safely to stop number 2, Saint Lou’s Assembly in the west loop, an American spot for creative takes on old-school, customizable comfort-food platters…. and delicious frosé, of course. Saint Lou’s has two indoor seating areas, one of which is adjacent to their awesome outdoor back patio with a variety of seating and bocce ball! They’re also next door to Moneygun, one of the coolest, chillest bars in the city!

The Hampton Social

Back in our Vias, we headed to probably the most well-known bar/restaurant in the city for rosé and frosé, The Hampton Social! This was my personal favorite spot for a multitude of reasons. We were given the best seats in the house with lots of light, couches and hammock seating, excellent frosé, food (finally), and incredible music thanks to performer Brian Allison. I could listen to him ALL day…. with my frosé, of course!

Service was incredible, the music was amazing, the food was absolutely delicious (and not just because we were starving – lol), and the frosé was so refreshing!  Everyone was having a great time and most of us made sure to snap a photo with the Rosé All Day wall before heading to destination number 4!

Drumbar

Rolling in style thanks to Via we made it to Drumbar, our first rooftop stop of the day with more life music from Sofar Sounds. Drumbar is known for its inventive craft cocktails and its chic, speakeasy vibe atop the Raffaello Hotel bar. Though the bar was crowded from accidentally being overbooked, the staff took great care of us and we found the perfect outdoor spot to snap some fun photos before we decided to roll out to our fifth and final destination. Frosé all day is no easy feat but we were determined to complete the tour.

Celeste

Off we went to our last stop on the tour, Celeste in River North, a swanky hangout with a downstairs bar plus a lounge & art deco New American supper club upstairs. Celeste bar was by far my favorite interior space. We headed straight to the top and I felt like I was sitting in the middle of a greenhouse! I loved all of the fresh plants and greenery here and the frosé definitely stood out with its deep maroon color. I am sure it was delicious but I only took one sip as at this point I had hit my alcohol limit!

It was time for me to bounce… and you better believe I made sure to ride home in style courtesy of Via, of course. Again, if you’re new to Via, download the app here: bit.ly/2fNYZwA and use code appetite4adventure to get your first 3 rides for FREE!

Don’t be bummed if you missed this event, I promise you that Lexi and Kati have quite a few more tricks and events up their sleeves! I will be sure to keep you informed of what’s to come. In the meantime, please share any great event ideas you might have in the comments of this blog post!

Think big, be creative, and most importantly don’t be ashamed to share your kooky idea. It could be a coffee crawl, a bloody mary crawl, an ice cream crawl, or anything you think will be fun. A huge thanks to Lexi and Kati for organizing such a cool and fun event and an extra special thanks to Via for making sure we are all able to get to each destination safely. I hope you all check out Via next time you’re heading out.
