When Beck’s Sapphire held a series of launch events in Chicago beginning with a Media VIP preview party on January 23rd, Now You Know Events had to be there. Each evening of the Chicago Becks Sapphire launch brought an incredible opportunity to all guests – a chance to win an all-expense VIP paid trip to Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week. That first night I stood among my friends as we each entered to win. I remember uttering the words, “One of us is going to win.” Wanting the trip so bad I contemplating attending every Becks Sapphire launch event in Chicago but opted not to go and then honestly forgot about the contest.
The potential prize had become a lost memory until a phone call on February 7th less than an hour after telling my co-workers I needed a break and just needed to get out of here. The simple words, “Congratulations, you have been selected as a winner in the Becks Sapphire sweepstakes to win a trip for two to NYFW,” made that dream a reality. Within under 24 hours my flight, hotel, and Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week itinerary were set. I’ve been pinching myself ever since.
Airfare on United, a room at the incredible Dream Downtown Boutique Hotel, dinner at Marble Lane restaurant, tickets to 3 NYFW shows, invites to the Becks Sapphire after parties with Betsey Johnson and NY Mag, and some spending cash to boot; I just had to be dreaming. But I’m not! This is my life and to show my undying love and appreciation to Becks and everyone else involved in making my dreams come true, I will be updating you all on my experience throughout New York Fashion Week.

Monday, February 11, 2013 (Day 1)
Our flight on United took off with a minor delay but was a smooth ride and landed us in NY when expected. Our driver was at baggage claim waiting with a sign that said Cahnmann and led us to our luxury ride that whisked us to Chelsea and dropped us at the infamous Downtown Dream Boutique Hotel. What a befitting name given that we are truly living a dream right now! We couldn’t wait to explore and excitedly rushed to our room gawking at every view. It was beyond perfect – so swanky and modern; chic and stylish. There was a welcome message on the TV screen along with a couple six packs of Beck’s Sapphire, a Becks bottle opener, and a welcome packet. After a quick video and photos we got fashionably ready for our dinner in the hotel lobby, Marble Lane. We were wined and dined all night enjoying succulent appetizers, delectable entrees, tantalizing sweets, cocktails, and of course unlimited Becks Sapphire.
And then the moment we were waiting for finally came. It was time to open our envelopes with all our goodies inside. It was like waiting for your name to be called to win the Oscar. There were our checks to cover extra expenses, VIP after party passes, a Metra card to get around town, and tickets to FOUR runway shows at Lincoln Center – Vera Wang, Naeem Khan, Michael Kors, and Nanette Lepore. Shut the front door…. was all this really happening???!!! YES! We spent the rest of the evening traipsing around Chelsea and the Meat Packing District looking scouting out somewhere to dance the night away but these New Yorkers don’t go out til late (well after midnight) plus not much jumping on a Monday night. So, after about an hour or so of galavanting around the city, we decided to update our fans and get some beauty rest for our full day of fashion tomorrow.
Please check out our facebook page for ALL of our photos from Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York City! We will be adding new albums daily so visit us on FB regularly to make sure you don’t miss out on our latest Fashion News. Were off to Vera Wang and Naeem Khan tomorrow. Can’t wait!
Since this week is all about fashion and we love shoes, let’s show some love for the great Jimmy Choo.
Tuesday, February 12, 2013 (Day 2)
It’s 1 in the morning here in NYC and though we could still be out partying the night away but we wanted to make sure we brought you our daily NYFW update. Besides we’ve been on the go since 9 this morning without stopping and we have to make sure we make it to the Michael Kors show tomorrow morning. Today was exciting and way beyond what we could’ve ever expected. Our driver picked us up at 9:30AM to take us to the Lincoln Center for the 11 0′clock Vera Wang show. Walking up towards the Lincoln Center with the larger-than-life Mercedes Benz Fashion Week sign spread across the top of the entrance was surreal. And things only got better once we stepped inside. We were on sensory overload with everything going on. Swag was being given out left and right. They had the most modern, optimized coat check system where you enter your phone number and have your photo taken so no losing your coat ticket or coat. There were also free snacks and so many incredibly fashionable folks abound.
Soon it was time for Vera Wang and we were escorted to our seats for the show. We spied Jada Smith and John Legend in the audience and made sure to snap a photo. The show itself was amazing. Catch a clip from the final below. After Vera Wang we had some time to kill so we grabbed a bite to eat nearby and snapped more photos of the crowd then chilled in the Beck’s Sapphire VIP lounge until our next show, Naeem Khan. If you are not familiar with this incredible designer we suggest you get to know him ASAP! Can we just say, he is our new favorite designer. We were in absolute awe of everyone of his gorgeous pieces. His attention to detail is beyond words. See the photo above for a glimpse at his latest collection.
After the shows we galavanted around New York checking out thrift shops and grabbing another bite to eat with a close friend and resident New Yorker before heading off to see a fashion/theatrical production from 21st Century Fashion House Neodandi at EN Japanese Brasserie. Neodandi designer NiiLartey De Osu fuses texture, movement, and color into designs. The runway show itself featured 35 women’s looks and 7 men’s looks. The show took a unique approach splitting the designs into 8 collections and having the models sashay down a square runway passing by a dramatic solo performance. Though a unique exhibition it wasn’t really our cup of tea. The designs just didn’t intrigue me though I did enjoy the theatrics as I felt the passion, the depth, and the story being unfolded before our eyes. A cocktail party catered by chef Abe Hiroki followed the show accompanied with small bites from EN. Unfortunately the food didn’t impress either. Though we were “blown” away by the beautiful blown glass vases gifted to all the guests. Nevertheless we know the Neodandi team has a great following and I can see why researching the history of the line. There are some very edgy, artistic, and unique looks. Fans will be happy to know that the team will follow up the show with the opening of their first NYC boutique in late February and a permanent move of their Seattle atelier to NYC in late Spring. Check out the photo below from the show and see more photos by clicking these links.
Finally we made our way to Le Baron in Chinatown for the Beck’s Sapphire After Party with Betsey Johnson. The Beck’s Sapphire was flowing all night as the DJ spun funk and hip hop tunes and the crowd danced to the beats. We then headed to another fashion week after party. Let’s just say we had an incredible day/night and cannot wait until tomorrow! See more photos on our facebook page.
Wednesday, February 13, 2013 (Day 3)
After a full day & night out Tuesday we couldn’t wait to welcome Wednesday’s itinerary starting off with the Michael Kors Runway Show at 10am where we spied none other than long-time actor Michael Douglas. Bright yellows, blues, and oranges covered the runway alongside black and white sleek and sporty looks. We loved the runway set-up for the Michael Kors show as the models weaved their way up and down for aisles to ensure no one missed a look. Directly after that show we were escorted into Nanette Lapore where we saw lots of texture, color, and holographic designs.
Though we were sad to see our last Mercedes Benz Fashion Week show, we knew we had to see as much of NY as we could in the little bit of time we had left. Being that it was Ka’s first visit to the Big Apple, we convinced our driver to take us to Times Square and wait while we walked around. Ka enjoyed the larger than life advertisements and all the lights but was as anxious as I was to get in a little shopping. So we located our driver and headed to Soho – the shopping mecca of the U.S. With little time to spare we did some minor damage and made a few impressive purchases. I, of course, found a couple more pair of heels. Then it was back to the hotel to change and hit some more after parties.
We opted to check out the Urban Gypsy party at the Empire Hotel Roof Top Bar and definitely made a good choice. We enjoyed an open bar, lots of fashionably fabulous guests, and another runway show. Since we hadn’t eaten much all day and were craving sushi we asked around and located Sushi Damo which we were very impressed with all around. Prices were very reasonable for NY standards, service was impeccable, and the food was delicious! Satiated and re-fueled we headed back towards our hotel to get ready for yet another after party. There were so many options – Jeremy Scott at the Standard, Nanette Lapore at Darby’s Downstairs, The Cosmopolitan Cover Party, Champagning‘s 1 Year Anniversary at the other Dream Hotel location. The options were endless. Yet we opted to enjoy some chilled Beck’s Sapphire in our hotel with a good friend also in NY and then maybe hit up PH-D – the roof top bar at the Dream Downtown. It was the perfect end to a perfect vacation.
Thursday, February 14, 2013 (Day 4)
We woke-up bright and early the next day to enjoy breakfast at the Chelsea Market and check out the hotel pool which by the way was quite wild. The pool has a glass bottom with the hotel lobby visible below. So if you’re swimming in the pool you can see the lobby guests down below and they can look up and see you up above. We definitely recommend the Dream Downtown for your NY stay. At 10AM it was time to meet our driver and head back to La Guardia to catch our flight back to the windy city. We were beat but had the time of our lives. It still feels like a dream!
We’re throwing in one last video since we heard the Tadashi Shoji Spring 2013 was amazing! Here you go.
