Move Over Diamonds – Chocolate & Fashion are a Girl’s Best Friend, Too

Diamonds have always been known as being a girl’s best friend, but who says a girl can’t have more than one best friend?  We love chocolate and fashion, too.  And thanks to Chicago Chocolate Tours (CCT), once a year, we ladies get to indulge in both of them on the annual Chic Meets Sweet: Choclate+Fashion Tour!  CCT delivered the sweet and chic side of Chicago on their special chocolate walking tour Friday night.

We met-up with CCT founder Valerie Beck and our incredibly knowledgeable tour guide Kerri Morrison.  They scheduled a full line-up of stops covering the chicest and sweetest places along the Magnificent Mile. We started with a taste of premium Swiss chocolate at Teuscher located on the 5th floor of the 900 N. Michigan Avenue shops where we had the divine pleasure of indulging in the most decadent champagne truffles.

Once we satiated our sweet tooth with a delightful bit of luxurious chocolate, we strolled around the corner to  Kate Spade and satisfied our fashion cravings with gorgeous handbags and glamorous garments in the new fall color, Ruby.  Before heading to our next stop on the tour we were awarded with another tasty treat from Sarah’s Pastries & Candies.

Then it was off to Sofia Vintage – a girl’s dream closet where you can find a mix of modern and classic styles from dresses and tops to shoes and accessories.  I fell in love with a yellow House of Harlow dress and a few vintage accessories including sunglasses, a ring, and a gorgeous necklace.  Sweet?  Yes!  Even sweeter was the honor of having Kokku Chocolatier, Kevin Roblee  in our company sharing some dark chocolate and giving each of us a choice of a either of his delicious gourmet caramel or chocolate sauces to take home.  Major score.

Still more indulgences awaited us… It was off to Hendrickx Belgian Bakery for the most delicious bread I have ever tasted.  They spoiled us with tastes of their chocolate croissant, white chocolate & orange bread topped with pearlized sugar, chocolate-filled muffins, and my personal favorite – the country bread made with only four ingredients: flour, salt, water, and yeast.

Afterwards,  it was time for more… literally!  You can’t possibly have a chocolate tour without partaking in the newest sweets craze – cupcakes.  And More Cupcakes tops the competition!  Plus, our timing couldn’t have been more perfect.  Every Friday from 5-7PM, More hosts a complimentary happy hour serving cocktail-inspired cupcakes.  Drink, er cupcake specials, included Classic Margaritas, Gin & Juice, Lemon Drops, and Pomegranate Mojitos just to name a few.  And of course, More had a batch of their signature mini chocolate chocolate cupcakes set aside just for us.

At this point, I had just about had my chocolate fill but we still had two more stops to make both of which were located at the Northbridge Shops.  It was time to let the child in us free as we arrived at Candyality and bit into a piece of Michelle Obama – a delicious chocolate banana truffle – part of their special celebrity collection.  We also checked out their eye-catching In Fashion display of candy wrapper inspired dresses and shoes.  Before heading to our last stop I indulged the kid in me and bought sour watermelon candies… my childhood favorite.

Finally, we ended our fabulous sweet and chic chocolate and fashion tour at one of the most fashionable places in the city – Adelle Dallas Orr Boutique filled with jewel-toned clothes, purses, and accessories.  And a special treat to end our tour – Swirlz Cupcakes, champagne, and chocolate prizes.

Talk about living the sweet life!  Valerie Beck, without a doubt, outdid herself.  Only six years ago, while practicing law, Valerie combined her love of Chicago, chocolate, and people.  Just like that, Chicago Chocolate Tours was born and ever since Valerie and her delightful tour guides have been filling local Chicagoans with knowledge and chocolate!

Everyone left the evening satiated and with some great takeaways in hand including gift certificates to all our stops and a Kate Spade perfume sample.
